El Cielo Butterfly Festival 2008
October 19-23, 2008
Cd. Mante, Tamaulipas

Field trips will be led by Derek Muschalek and Dan Hardy.  Local guides will be experts on birds and butterflies of the area.


Our event this year will be held right after "Texas Butterfly Festival" Take advantage of this and go butterflying in the Texas Valley before you come to Mexico with us. For info visit: Texas Butterfly Festival


Sunday October 19th, 2008

People purchasing the ALL INCLUSIVE "El Cielo Butterfly Festival" package will board the bus at 7:00 AM in McAllen, Texas. Exact boarding Location to be announced.

A lunch and butterfly watching stop will be made on the way to Ciudad Mante, Tamaulipas. The group will arrive around 5PM.

          Cost $700 U.S CY. Per person (2 people per room)

          Cost $800 U.S CY. Per person (Single room)

6:00- 8:30 PM. Welcome Dinner. This will be the inaugural event for all activities. This is an excellent opportunity to mingle and get to know other participants

Monday October 20th, 2008

7:00 - 8:00 AM Breakfast

8:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Finding Butterflies in Gomez Farias. We will visit La Florida. In this area we could find Regal Hairstreak, Split-banded and Orange Owlets, Florida Purplewing, Whitened Bluewing, Variable Cracker, Balck-spotted and Purpulish-black Skippers, and Mexcian Ruby-Eye to name a few species. Box lunch will be provided.

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Rest time. You can rest, mingle or roam around Ciudad Mante and do some shopping.

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Dinner

8:00 PM - 9:00 PM Time to share and ID photos in a group setting.

Tuesday October 11th, 2008

7:00 - 8:00 AM Breakfast

8:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Finding Butterflies at El Naranjo. This town is on the neighboring state of San Luis Potosi. We will also visit El Salto Park, which has a with a big waterfall and is an interesting place to find Tiger Leafwing, Pale Leafwing, Common Morpho, Gold-stained Satyr, Orion, One and Two-spotted Preponas and several species of Clearwings to name a few species.

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Rest time. You can rest, mingle or roam around Ciudad Mante and do some shopping.

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Dinner

8:00 PM - 9:00 PM Time to share and ID photos in a group setting.

Wednesday October 12th, 2008

7:00 - 8:00 AM Breakfast. Your luggage should be ready since we will lodge in Cd. Victoria tonight.

8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Finding Butterflies at Alta Cima Road. We will go up the road towards Alta Cima, this will allow us to see some of the higher elevation species like Pale Leafwing, Stained Greenstreak, Mountain Greenstreak, Narrow-banded Dartwhite, Giant White, Gold-headed Bolla and Turquoise Longtail to name a few species. Box lunches will be provided.

3:00 PM - Travel to Cd. Victoria. Approximate arrival time 6 PM.

6:00 PM - 6:30 PM. Check in at hotel in Cd. Victoria

6:30 - 8:00 Farewell Dinner.

Thursday October 23rd, 2008

7:00 - 8:00 AM Breakfast. Participants should load their belongings on the bus since we will be returning to the Texas Valley today.

8:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Looking for butterflies at Novillo Canyon. This is a good place to find Mountain Greenstreak , Creamy Stripestreak, Carousing Metalmark, Curve-winged Metalmark ,Superb Cycadian, Variable Swallowtail and Hermit Skipper to name a few species. Box lunch will be provided.

1:00 PM Departure for Texas, approximate arrival time in McAllen 6:30 PM

ALL INCLUSIVE PACKAGE INCLUDES:

Transportation from McAllen, Texas to Cd. Mante and back, 3 nights lodging in Mante and 1 night in Victoria, Welcome Dinner, all meals, plenty of bottled water and snacks, butterfly watching tours to Gomez Farias, El Naranjo, Alta Cima Road and Troncones Canyon.

Notes:

Remember: If you are a US or Canadian Citizen You must bring with you either:
1) A valid passport, or
2) Voter´s registration card accompanied by Driver´s license, or
3) Original Birth Certificate acompanied by Driver´s license. 


Some of you might want to review photos and do Ids. Make sure you bring cables to hook up you cameras to a TV and/or laptop.
