El Cielo Lowland Trip Itinerary
Day1

7:00 AM board the van in the Texas Valley. We will stop to get our visas at the border and later for lunch in Victoria.
3:00 PM Aprox. Arrival in Gomez Farias, check in at hotel. We will bird at Flamboyanes in the Afternoon where we might find Squirrel Cuckoo, Spot-breasted Wren, Golden-crowned Warbler, Yellow-winged TanagerYellow-winged Tanager and Black-headed Saltator.
7:00 PM Dinner and lodging in Gomez Farias.
Day 2
6:00 AM. Breakfast.
6:30 AM - 6:00 PM. Birding trip to Alta Cima. This is will take us into the mountain area of El Cielo, to the place where the cloud forest begins. Some of the feature birds of this area are Tamaulipas Pygmy-owl, Ornate Hawk-eagle, Wedge-tailed Sabrewing, Azure-crowned Hummingbird, Elegant and Mountain Trogon, Barred Antshrike, Rufous-browed Peppershrike, Crimson-collared Grosbeak, Melodious Blackbird and Black-headed Siskin among many others. We will have lunch at La Fe Restaurant in Alta Cima, owned by the local group of women. You will have time to visit La Fe souvenir Store and by different items embroidered with the local birds, jam, and wild berry liquor.
7:00 PM Dinner and lodging in Gomez Farias
Day 3
6:00 AM. Breakfast.
6:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Birding trip to La Florida. This is a wonderful place to look for birds along the Rio Frio. Bat Falcon, Blue-crowned Motmot, Millitary Macaw, Red-crowned and White-crowned Parrot, Blue-crowned Motmot, Ferruginous-Pygmy Owl, Masked Tityra, Lineated and Pale-billed Woodpeckers are some of this place's specialties. Break for lunch
5:30. We will take a 35 min. boat ride along the Río Frio, where we will most likely find Sungrebe, Boat-billed Heron and all the species of Kingfishers including Amazon.
7:00 PM Dinner by the Rio Frio and Night owling. Lodging in Gomez Farias
Day 4
6:00 AM. Breakfast.
6:30 AM - 4:00 PM. We will depart toward El Encino and El Azteca areas, where we will bird along the Sabinas River until noon. Specialties in this area include Bare-throated Tiger-Heron, Collared Forest-Falcon, Roadside Hawk, Bat Falcon, Ruddy Ground Dove, Blue Ground-Dove, Amazon Kingfisher, Tufted Flycatcher, Bronze-winged Woodpecker, Altamira Yellowthroat, Hooded Yellowthroat, Yellow-winged Tanager, Blue-black and Yellow-faced Grassquits. Includes box lunch.
DAY 5
6:00 AM. Breakfast and load belongings on van.
7:00 AM - 12:30 PM Birding in Gomez Farias along Rio Sabinas and departure for Texas, approximate arrival time in McAllen at 6:30 PM.


If you have a party of 6 or more people you are all set!!! Just fill in the Trip Request Form. If your party consists of less than 6 people, we can hook you up with another group to get you going. To open a date of your choice for this Itinerary, fill the Trip Request Form with your proposed date and we will list it as a pending birding trip. As soon as we get you matched with enough birders we will notify you.

Our 5 day/4 night Lowland trip to El Cielo departing from the Texas Valley has the following cost per person. Cost varies depending on lodging option chosen (single or double) and the number of people in your party.

* Notes:
1) If your party is less then 6 people you will get the 6 people rate, regardless of how many more people we sing up for it (maximum 9).
2) If you want your trip to be "exclusive" for your group we would request you to pay $5,000 dollars as your group total regardless of the number of people in your party in order to cover the fixed costs. This applies for groups from 2 to 9 people.
